Poor, poor boy

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 4:16 pm

Sean had his 9 month checkup today. It didn’t go so well :-(. Let me back up…Saturday the 15th we took Sean to urgent care b/c we thought he had another ear infection…and he did. That made #3 since August, and another round of antibiotics started. He’s also had a cold for about 1.5 weeks that we’ve been struggling with.

So on to today…I discussed his skin dryness with the doctor and he said that Sean definitely has excema. He gave us some suggestions of things to use on him, but said that he’ll probably stay the same until he gets a little older *sigh*

Next, he checked his ears. Another ear infection. How do you get another ear infection when you are on your 9th day of an antibiotic? I have no idea, but he does. *double sigh* So he was prescribed another, stronger antibiotic to take instead. The doctor also referred him to an ENT to discuss the possibility of getting tubes put in. We don’t really want to do it, but he said 4 ear infections in 4 months isn’t the greatest course to be on…so we have to go to the ENT and get checked out.

Then he had to get a flu shot. No biggie, but no shots are fun 🙂

Then he had to get 2 fingersticks (ouch!). One for a lead test (standard test) and one for an iron test. He was low on his iron, so now he has to get on an iron suppliment 2x day for 6-8 weeks, then get retested *triple sigh*

Poor little guy. At least he’s off the chart developmentally. 🙂 They can’t believe that he’s already standing somewhat on his own, cruising, saying Mama,Dada, Baba, Ah-done, waving, etc. He’s a little behind growth-wise (40-50% in everything) but they aren’t worried.

So, pretty eventful day. More medicine, more sicky boy 🙁 At least he gets to see lots of family / friends in the next few weeks, so he’ll get lots and lots of extra lovin’!

well isnt this fun?

*edit: i tried to post from my cell phone…but the box to type the actual blog didn’t show up so I couldn’t finish it*
Well, for the first time in probably 6 years, I had a hard drive failure. This happened in my new PC – the one I built about 3 or so months ago. The drive is under warranty, but of course, that does nothing for my data. I’ve been able to pull off my thunderbird mail files – haven’t tested their integrity yet. Glad I could get those, as I have just about all my emails since 2001 or 2002 and would die if I lost all those.
Once I have it up and running, I’ll sign up for Carbonite.com’s service and start my backups again with Comodo Backup (free!).
It woudl be one thing if I heard the drive clicking or saw error messages in the Windows Syslog – but no. The PC locked up on Sunday afternoon, then bluescreened. I rebooted and it was trying to load GRUB off one of my secondary drives (guess it was installed on there from some previous install). Wierd…booted with an XP cd and the pc was assigning my XP drive with an E:. Reloaded the windows boot loader and reset the MBR only to have it reboot into XP and immediately bluescreen. Wonderful. Guess I know what I’ll be doing over the next few days – trying to recover data, and reinstalling Windows. I had XP Pro 64bit this last time ardound. Maybe I will go Vista Ultimate 64 bit this time. Of..maybe I’ll toss it all away and install Ubuntu. Its worked well for months on my laptop and I’m addicted to Frozen Bubble 🙂
Lesson learned:
No more OEM harddrives for me. Retail only.

Dr Pepper to deliver on its free-soda promise

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dr Pepper is making good on its promise of free soda now that the release of Guns N’ Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” is a reality. The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. “Chinese Democracy,” infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday.

“We never thought this day would come,” Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper’s vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “But now that it’s here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”

Beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper’s Web site. They’ll be honored until Feb. 28.

Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.

Our new game

Tag: Emily,Family,Fun,SeanAndrewEmily @ 10:00 pm

Sean and I were playing a new game today. I got laughing so hard with him, that I had to get the video camera and record some of it. Unfortunately he’s been sick lately, and he got laughing so hard playing our game that he got himself into several coughing fits. Still….if this video doesn’t make you fall over laughing like it did him (literally), then you’ve got something wrong with you!

Here are some long-awaited videos of Sean. He’s really growing up!

First, is a very serious conversation that we had with Sean over dinner the other night. He’s really becoming a chatterbox!

Next, is the new trick that he started doing yesterday:

Last, Sean is starting to walk with his walker! He’s so cute to watch 🙂

Here it comes!

Sean had a pretty rough day today. He was a little grumpy, tired but couldn’t sleep, and most of all, just wanted extra love. The reason?? Well, the teeny tiny white spec on his gum would be a clue! Yup! He is getting a tooth! You can see it through just a smidgen of gum tissue. We’re thinking that when he wakes up tomorrow, it’ll have poked through. We can’t wait to see what our little boy looks like with a tooth! We’ll be sure to get a picture (as long as you can see it!)

**Update** The tooth did pop through. We’re trying really hard to get a picture of it, but it’s pretty difficult, as Sean doesn’t like us to dig around in his mouth. Hopefully we’ll get one soon!

Micheal Crichton has passed away after privately battling cancer. I’ll miss his writing. He was one of my favorite authors.

Ahh, memories

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 9:41 am

Paul and I took my brother Philip and his friend Scott to Murray State University this past weekend for a college visit. I haven’t been back in almost 6 years and Paul about 3. Murray has really grown since we’d been back, and the campus itself has a lot of new, amazing buildings. They are slowly rebuilding all the dorms; Clark College has already been built behind Winslow cafeteria (which was also completely remodeled), and they are building a new Richmond behind Hester. Quite the building operation around there. They’ve also built a new Chemistry building, Biology building, and are in process of a new public safety building.

We had a really good time on campus. It was fun to show Philip and Scott all the areas to hang out, and talk about “real” college life to them. I think they had a really good time and are thinking seriously about going to MSU next fall.

We also got to meet my cousin Trish and her husband for the first time. Well, my aunt and uncle’s grandchild…2nd cousin? 1st cousin twice removed?? Oh heck, I don’t know. Either way, we had dinner together Sunday night then went back to their house and hung out. We had a really good time and were glad to meet them. We’re hoping to see them again if they head north sometime in the future 🙂

Go Racers!!
