Lots going on.

Emily and I finally got our taxes done this past weekend and now we are springing for a temprapedic mattress. We’ve slept on a few of those foam mattresses (on a cruise and at the local Episcopal diocese camp) before and really liked them. Now that Emily is pregnant, we need something more comfortable for her (and me?) to sleep on. Our current mattress is only 5 or 6 years old but it is super uncomfortable. We are getting it delivered on Saturday and I (we) are SO looking forward to it.
I’ve picked up three new projects for the summer. I am determined to get the garden we started last summer finished to some point – meaning its not some walled of dirt lot that its been:) The second project is to restore the grass in a number of spots in the yard that have become barren due to shade or poor soil. The third…and my most ambitious…is a truck. When I was at Murray State, my folks got me an 87 Mitsubishi Montero 2 door – the sport model (top o the line). We bought it from a guy on base from the “Lemon lot”. It was my first car I didn’t have to share and I loved it. I met Emily when I had the truck, installed my first stereo thanks to Kurt, and many other fond memories. So I bought another. I’ve scoured the net for years to find one…one that wasn’t way overpriced that is.
The problem with an 80’s truck is rust and carburetors. Both of which this truck has problems with. I am dealing with the rust with a wire brush, evap-o-rust, primer and other fun stuff, but I’ve only ever worked on fuel injected cars so this is new to me. I’m in no hurry – but next winter would be nice 🙂 Emily is a very patient wife…because I bought a second one for dirt cheap – it is a rust bucket but came with a boat load of parts and extras that I can use to rebuild my project truck.
Sean has been potty training for a number of weeks now and its going slowly. Some weeks he is spot on and we think things are turning around, then the terrible twos turn their head and he fights tooth and nail. He’ll learn eventually and we are proud of everything else he does.
Lots of stuff coming up in the next couple months so I’ll make sure to keep everyone updated!

Here we go again!

Tag: baby2,GeneralPaul C. @ 9:17 am

So we are around 8.5 weeks pregnant (well, its mostly Emily, not really ‘we’). Due date is late November, I think the 19th. Emily can correct me (she’s good at that) if I am wrong 🙂
The morning sickness seems to be strong this time around, which makes us think its probably going to be a girl. No ‘ralphing’ or anything, Emily just described it as a constant hangover. Not my idea of a good time!
The next sonogram will be sometime in July and we should find the baby’s sex then.

Hey there…Long time no see!

Tag: GeneralPaul C. @ 10:23 pm

So its pretty obvious that Emily and I have been very lazy when it comes to our website.  We’ve both been busy with our jobs and life in general.  I guess the other reason you don’t see too many posts on here is because of Facebook.  Facebook has essentially ruined many of the blogs I used to visit.

Its so much easier to make the quick “status” update on there and post a few pics as opposed to all the back end stuff required to update this site.  Its interesting too see how the internet has gone from websites like Geocities in the 90’s (they offered free websites to anyone that wanted one), then the early 200’s brought us people wanting their own sites (like this one!) to the modern day where its just easier to post on social media sites like Facebook and the (on its way out) Myspace.

We won’t be abandoning this site of course – we’ll probably just not be posting to it as much as we did in the last few years.  We recently discovered that being a parent keeps you super busy!  Whoada thunk it?  We do have quite a few photos to post to the gallery to catch up on recent events.

Did you know that Sean turned two back in Feb?  YUP!  Our lil boy is a BIG boy.  We had a GREAT birthday weekend.  BIG sean flew in from Seattle and Megan and Mom came into town from St. Louis for the party.  Sean had a great time before his party going to the hotel pool with mom and big Sean (that kid loves to swim!).  We were hoping Aunt Karen and Uncle ted would make it, but that didn’t work out.  We hope to have them visit soon 🙂

Sean’s party was great and emily made an AWESOME Thomas the Tank Engine cake.  We were worried that he wouldn’t want her to cut into it, but everything worked out 🙂

Hmmm…what else?  We carpeted the third floor and bought a super comfy Serta futon to go up there.  I think its going to become our default guest room since our current one has two twin beds which doesn’t work out great for most visitors.

We had Emily’s sister Cate visit over her sprint break.  It was the same week as Emily’s spring break so Emily put her to work.  Cate had never painted before (whhhaaaat??) so she and Emily repainted our office while she was here.

Sean is currently potty training.  Holy SMOKES that is one of the most stressful things I have ever done in my LIFE!  (our life..I’m married 🙂 ).  Sean is starting to warm up to it after a few weeks.  I think in a couple of weeks we will pretty pretty solid on it.  I’ll tell you – this kid is SMART.  He figured out that if he holds everything until bedtime he can “let go” in his pullups once he is in bed and then we have to change him etc. He also figured out that warm bath water “encourages” him to go, so he started hating baths. TSEC ( his day care) has done a good job coaching us on all of this so we are making progress.

Spring is coming so that means yard work, playing outside for Sean, etc.  I’m looking at picking up a new car-toy to tinker on – thats another blog post in itself though.  Hope this was a good catch-up for everyone.  Comments are welcome!

whoo boy…we be lazy

Tag: GeneralPaul C. @ 11:27 pm

I’m sure the grammar in that post will make my mother shudder, but wow, its been almost three weeks? Facebook has really killed the blogosphere amongst my friends.
So whats new? Well emily and I have joined gyms. She and her mom joined Curves. I heard a lot of good stuff about it from Kurt and Jodie and mentioned it a few times to Emily. so far they both really love it. I joined one of the local Urban Active gyms (what used to be Golds Gym). I’ve been going 3-4 days a week for the last 2-3 weeks now. I really enjoy it. The gym has racquetball, a two lane lap pool, cardio, classes etc. Now I just need to get some ppl at the gym to play R-Ball with me 🙂 (Scott, Chris…you reading this?)
Sean’s second birthday is coming up and we are starting to plan his party 🙂 Sean will be in town (Big Sean) that weekend too. Should be a lot of fun. Want to come to the party? let me know 🙂 I know the chick sending out the invites!

New TV

Tag: GeneralPaul C. @ 9:49 pm

You may remember almost exactly 3 years ago, I bought a new TV. Well starting sometime in December, we started noticing a white spot here and there on the TV. I did some research and found out it is a common problem with this model for the TVs made/sold Dec 2006 – March 2007. Basically, the chip inside the TV (DLP chip) has thousands of little mirrors that are on even smaller hinges. So the hinges lock in the up position and project a white dot on the screen that looks like a dead pixel.
After about a month we went from 3 dots to about 200. We tried to watch Harry Potter last night on DVD and the screen was so terrible it made the movie not so enjoyable. So, after saving best buy gift cards from birthdays and Christmas, I went to Best Buy and picked up a new TV.

Its an LG 47LH40-UA 47″ LCD TV (1080P, 120hz, etc). The picture is amazing compared to the Samsung. We are watching a DVD now and the screen is amazing, but it may take some getting used to. The movements of people, for example, seem weird – kind of hard to explain.

Thanksgiving & Cincy Trains!

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 4:58 pm

I know, we haven’t posted in forever. Here are some great pictures that Matt (Megan’s boyfriend) took while we were in St. Louis for THanksgiving, and some that Brian took at the Cincinnati, Duke Energy Train Exhibition this morning. Sean is getting really big! Sean is crazy about trains lately, so he was pretty exited about seeing the trains! They even had a Thomas and Percy train in the bunch!

Who is this child?

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 5:35 pm

So I think that someone took my son and replaced him with a stunt double. Last night he didn’t want a bottle for the first time in his life at bedtime. He never asked for it, went to bed and slept through the night…weird. Then, we came home after a trip to the library after picking him up from school and he went into the kitchen, pointed to the fridge and said “Milk, mommy.” Uhh…he has never drank milk from a cup…ever. He always refuses, which is part of the reason we still give him a bottle at night; since he never gets milk otherwise. So he polished off a whole cup of milk went “ahhhh” and said “more milk, mommy?” Who is this kid???

We’ll see how long this lasts; especially because I probably jinxed it by writing this post.

Could we be done with bottles??

Happy Halloween!

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 8:46 pm

We had a great Halloween with Sean. Diana made him a very cute Kitty costume. He wore it to school on Friday for their Halloween party. When it was time for trick or treating yesterday, Sean didn’t want to put his costume on. We opened the door and he saw all the kids dressed up, then he got excited about it and put his costume on! We headed out and after about 3 houses, he finally understood that people were giving him candy! He then started walking up to houses on his own and saying “more neenee (candy)!” He was so cute! He actually walked around for 1.5 hours and was going strong. I made him stop, because I was tired, but he kept saying “more neenee!” LOL. Here are some pictures of his cute little self on Halloween morning playing in leaves, and also in his costume:
