Intel Core Duo USB Issue

AnandTech: Intel Core Duo USB Issue: A Mischaracterized Bug

I’ve been reading about the new Intel Dual core CPU for the notebook computers, and about a “bug” found in Windows XP SP2. At first, the bug was thought to be a Duo issue, but after reading Anand’s write up on it, it is apparently a bug with XP SP2’s USB 2.0 driver and how it utilizes power. If you have a notebook and it has XP SP2 and an intel chip, you may want to read this and apply the registry patch described within.

Everything works!

What a cool day at the house! Paul and I went to Lowe’s today and chose hardware for the kitchen and bathrooms. We found one we loved instantly, went out to the house and it looks great! Of course we have to wait until the house is “officially” ours to install them, but we took some pictures of Paul holding them up to the cabinets so we could picture it…

All of the electrical outlets and light switches were working. We got to turn on all of our lights and figure out which switch turns what on; always interesting the first time 🙂

We really like all of the lighting in the house except the two ceiling lights in the kitchen. We’ll have to replace them eventually, they are very cheap looking. All the rest are brushed silver and look great!

We’re really starting to get excited, less than a month to go (we think)!

1 month to go!

Tag: The HouseEmily @ 10:16 am

Had a good meeting with Rick yesterday. They already starting fixing a lot of the problems. He said he would definitly fix the creaky floors and the bathroom wall. We’ll have to wait and see if their “tweeking” of the baseboards will be good enough for us. Overall, Paul and I were satisfied that we talked with him.

Rick said that we have about a month left before the house is finished. He said the only things that are really left are final electrical/plumbing servicing, basement windows, 2nd coat of paint (once everything’s finsihed), carpet and some odd and end inspections. He said the first week or two of March it’ll be done. Yipes! That’s about 4-5 weeks from now!

Paul and I have to get moving on picking paint colors and washer/dryer and fridge!

They did a lot of work yesterday, they are testing toilets, installed light fixtures on ceilings and in bathrooms, did the kitchen faucet and disposal, finished most outlets and switches, installed cable and phone jacks, touched up drywall nicks and bumps, etc.

I created a new gallery last night that has some photos from High School and Murray State. Have some more scanned in from fraternity and other stuff. Will hopefully get some more online as well.

Today the toilets and faucets were installed in the three bathrooms. Our water heater was also installed in the basement. The kitchen faucet isn’t installed yet, but the disposal is under the sink in the box.
All of our light fixtures are sitting in boxes in the living room, so they should be up soon too.

We have a meeting scheduled with Rick (building super.) tomorrow at 5pm. I did get a really nice return message from him saying that he definitly wants to fix things before they finish and would like to walk through the house with us. Hopefully they’ll fix what we want. Keep your fingers crossed!

Trouble-a-brewing

Still moving along on the house…they did the first coat of paint on all the interior walls today. The interior doors and interior door moldings are painted white. The baseboards aren’t painted yet. I assume they still have to fill the nail holes, then paint them (hopefully white). They also took the cardboard covering off of our front door. It’s very nice, we love it! We’ve been waiting a long time for the big reveal 🙂

Now for the frustrating part of building a home (yes, yes, I know, I told you so, I told you so…). Paul, my mom and I did a very thorough walk-through on Saturday and noticed quite a large list of things that need to be fixed on the house already. Everything from warped baseboards, to deep scuffs in the walls, to nicks in the ceilings, and even walls that are extremely bowed that need replacing or major work. *sighs*
I left the building supervisor a message today trying to set up a meeting with him to go over my list, but I haven’t heard back…wonder if I ever will. They obviously didn’t plan on fixing any of the drywall problems since they went ahead and started painting. grrr.
We figure, hey…they can either stop and fix it now, or wait until the house is finished, shiny and clean and have to rip out and redo stuff then. Up to them. We don’t care, we’re in no big rush.

So there’s my spillage for today. Any suggestions on how to approach the building inspector/company about the list? Kurt/Greg?

Our expected finish date is late March. We’ll know a specific date by the end of February. Or…could be longer if they drag their feet on fixing things.

Cabinets, baseboards and doors!

Tag: The HousePaul C. @ 10:10 pm

Today they put in the kitchen cabinets, stove, microwave, dishwasher, sinks, bathroom vanities and sinks, all interior doors and baseboards. Whew!

The kitchen is really exciting, it’s starting to actually look like a home!

Lots of work done on the house yesterday! The vinyl flooring in the kitchen, laundry room, all bathrooms, and front entryway was installed. All the vinyl floors have cardboard over them to protect them. I lifted up the cardboard in the kitchen to get a picture of it and opened the garage entry door to try to use it to hold up the cardboard to get a better picture…then I looked in the garage. Yikes.
All of our kitchen stuff was in there! The interior doors, kitchen cabinets, kitchen countertops, kitchen sink, appliances, and baseboards were all in the garage! I snapped a ton of pictures, click here to check them out.

There’s a sales meeting on Monday for the sales consultants at Maplestreet Homes. LJ, the sales counselor said that he’d get a really good idea about when the house would be completed at that meeting. We’re hoping it won’t get done too early, so we still have time to save money.
