You did what??? Why??

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 10:11 am

Ok. Sit down (you probably are) and take a deep breath. Paul and I did something a little crazy yesterday. Ready? We bought a house…and it’s across the street from my mom again. Well, we got our offer accepted anyway, so pretty much the same thing. What?! Why?! We know, it’s crazy, wild, unthinkable and just plain bad timing (with the baby coming), but it was an opportunity that we really couldn’t pass up.

My mom’s (and Brian and Ashley’s) neighbors and friends who work for Comair are being transfered to Alaska in 1.5 months. Their house, which everyone has always admired, was obviously going up for sale. On Friday night, Brian jokingly said to us “you should buy their house.” We all laughed it off, but after a few minutes of thinking, and realizing which house it was, we thought…what the hay, let’s walk through it to check it out. Matt, the owner, has spent the last few years gutting, remodeling, putting on new siding, and installing all new windows, and has probably dumped about $50,000 into it. We were at least curious to see what the inside looks like, because the outside is just adorable.

Paul and I walked through Saturday night and were amazed. Hardwood floors throughout (although they carpeted the upstairs), tile floor in the kitchen and bathrooms, a deck that was converted into a beautiful sun room, 4 bedrooms, a completely remodeled upstairs bathroom with pocket door and jacuzzi bathtub (oh, yes), refinished 3rd floor area that can be used as an office or additional bedroom, a basement that has about 10ft ceilings, and a completely remodeled kitchen with new solid-surface countertops, new cabinets and brand new stainless steel appliances. It also has a huge yard, brand new sidewalks and driveway, 2 car garage and a really cool storage room under the sun room where you can store outdoor equipment, Paul’s motorcycle or even make it a workroom (it’s Paul’s favorite thing!).

We liked the house and stayed up until about 1:30 in the morning actually considering putting an offer on it. We walked through the house again yesterday with the realtor. The reason we had to move quickly on it was because the house wasn’t even on the market yet (it will be as of today, Monday) and there were already 2 showings after us, a walk-up that wanted a showing, and 3 other realtors calling Holly asking for showing times for Monday. This house was going, and going fast. If you aren’t from around here, this particular street and block is highly desirable, and houses that go up for sale on it are typically sold by word of mouth before the realtor can even get the sign in the yard. So, we knew that if we wanted a chance at it, we had to put down an offer. So we did, and they accepted it. And…it was only about $6,000 more than what we paid for our house we built. Wow.

Here’s our thought process (well, combined with everyone else’s input) ;-). We did just build our house 2 years ago, and it seems silly to move out of a perfectly good house, especially with a baby due any day. But, as people say, you only live once. Also, as my aunt said, “when else in your life do you get the opportunity to live so close to family and have that type of community, AND have a great house?” We spend so much time at my mom’s and with Brian and Ashley anyway that we’ve come to miss the “community” of that street. It’s sad to think that we know every person on that street and don’t even live there, and have lived here for 2 years and know 1 neighbor…well, at least their names.

What the french toast?

Tag: Fun,GeneralEmily @ 8:18 am

As anyone who spends any time with Brian knows, he loves the phrase “oh, for crying out loud.” We all joke about it. A week or two ago, Ashley responded to something someone said by saying “son of a biscuit eater.” A few days later, I saw this Orbit Gum ad on tv and thought that’s where Ashley got it from. We watched in on you tube and were all cracking up laughing. We’ve been saying the phrases ever since. My favorite obviously is “what the french toast?”

Check it out, hopefully it’ll give you a good laugh: CLICK HERE
Found the script for it too, since some are hard to understand:

You son of a biscuit eating bulldog!
What the french toast?
You think I wouldn’t find out about your little doo doo head cootie queen?!
Who are you calling a cootie queen you lint licker!
Pickle you kumquat!!
You’re overreacting!
No Bill, overreacting was when I took your convertible into a wood chipper stinky mcstink face!
Oh, you hoboken

🙂

Need a hat?

One of the gifts we got for Emily’s shower was made by my sister, Megan.  Megan has taken up knitting and, by damn, she is good at it!  The photo below doesn’t really show the detail of the stitches (is that what you call it in knitting?) but its pretty amazing how the turned out! She is really good at this stuff!

Slowly but surely…

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 3:42 pm

I saw my doctor for my weekly visit today.  He gave me good news that my cervix is starting to efface.  Yay!  I realize that doesn’t mean anything in terms of a timeline for delivery, but it made me happy to know that things were starting to move in the right direction.  I was glad that he said that things were starting because I’ve been cramping a bit lately and having Braxton Hicks contractions out the wazoo, and have been a little “sore”.

My doctor said that Little Sean is head down (where he’s suppose to be), and facing the correct direction (even better) so it’s just a matter of waiting now…

Counting the days….

36 down, 4(ish) to go!

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 8:59 pm

Wow, I can’t believe that I’ve hit the 36 week mark!  Under 30 days now (as long as he cooperates).  Paul and I are so excited to meet Little Sean; we sit in his room every night and look at his cute stuff and dream about how we’re only days away from meeting our little boy!  He’s still kicking like crazy and loves to make my stomach lopsided by sticking his butt out my right side.  I have feet sticking out the left and a butt to the right.  This boy is going to love to stretch when he gets out!

Paul also took some really cool pictures of my tummy tonight; I put them in blank and white (much more pleasing to the eye…hehe) and cropped them up a bit and they really look amazing.  Sorry for you all of you in internet-land though, you can’t see them.  They show some parts of me that I don’t want hopping around on the internet 😉

Check out the 36 week picture by clicking here.  Not too many of these left!

Remember to vote if you haven’t already, for the date he’s born.  Click here to see the calendar.

Busy Monday

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 7:35 am

Yesterday was my first Monday off work. I decided to decrease my hours from 40 to 32 starting yesterday so I’d have a little time to get last minute appointments in, get things ready for the baby and get some well needed rest! My day yesterday was pretty busy. Got Megabyte to the vet for all her shots, did all of laundry for little Sean’s clothes / sheets / etc, and visited the last 4 childcare places on my list. I did find one that I really like and I’m going to have Paul go with me sometime this week to check out my top 2 picks and get his input. Both places I found are very friendly, safe and very convenient to both our home and work.

I also had an appointment at a fire station to get the car seat installed in my car and inspected, but when I got there all the firetrucks were gone and no one was around. Oh well, guess fires take precedence over me 😉 I’ll have to try again another day.

Thinking about unplugging…

Right now I have instant messenger accounts on ICQ, Yahoo!, AIM/AOL, GoogleTalk, and my work’s Car-Part Messenger.  I’ve pretty much stopped using my Yahoo accounts because I was getting spammed; I don’t really like AOL – log into yoru account in two places? get spammed by AOL’s server to let you know – with no way of turning it off. ICQ is also bad with spam, even though my account number is one of the earliest ones of anyone I know – only six digits long, as I signed up back in 1996 or 1997.  I currently use Trillian to manage the accounts.  Aside from spam and annoying messages, its kind of silly for me to have all these messengers beacause of the handful of people i talk, most of them have two or more IM accounts in my list.  Kind of redundant.

So, first I am going to stop using Yahoo and AOL.  If you have paulhcahill in your yahoo! list…it was nice knowing you.  If you have an ICQ account and have PC (541449) in your list, you may see me around a bit longer, but I will likely phase that one out too.

Google Talk is free and works very well – it saves your history online (as an option), and has NO spam.  Plus it is compatible with AOL’s IM and i get zero spam on it. It’s also compatible with my Car-Part Messaging IM account.  Get it!
