aaaaannnndddd its back…

As emily stated previously, Sean has another ear infection. The last few nights he has been throwing up in the middle of the night and yesterday he was awfully tired, and took quite a few naps. He gooey eye was worse of the weekend and his eye that was fien started to goo a little (these are professional medical terms, people). Last night was *really* rough for me. Emily had to leave for a school training in Lexington in the wee hours of the morning, so I had to tend to Sean. It was a very restless night last night and I finally got him to bed around 430 or 5am after he “slept” on my chest for a few hours. I even missed my alarm this morning and wa a tad late getting to work!
I really hope tonight is better…however I’m doubting it. I’m flying solo tonight, as Em won’t return until tomorrow night. Good thing we just bought a 12 pack of redbull…
Thanks to Diana for picking him up @ daycare today to get him into the doctor’s office. I think maybe his first ear infection never fully cleared up. He got some more powerful meds this time around. The doc said his gooey eyes were caused by the same bacteria/virus thing.

He speaks!

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 8:19 am

Sean is saying “baba” and “dada” now! A few weeks ago, he started babbling a lot, saying va, ba, and da, but not towards anything specific. About a week ago, he looked at his bottle and reached his hand toward it and said “baba!” Now, he’ll say “baba” when he’s hungry and say it over and over again while you are making it 🙂

During our closing last Thursday Paul and I were passing Sean back and forth entertaining him. When I was holding him, he reached over to Paul and said “Dada!” We couldn’t believe it! He’s done that a few more times, looking right at Paul. So cute!

Now we just need him to say Mama so it’s fair! 🙂

Pool is done!

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 5:06 pm

Oh, and by the way, the pool is finished! Check out Brian and Ashley’s webpage for some pictures. Now, we’re not “legal” yet, so no parties. Gotta get the electric running, get the yard redone/seeded and get a fence put in. Once that’s done, we can party party party!

Gotta love working in the schools…

Tag: General,really..?!Emily @ 5:04 pm

Working for the school system is paying off bigtime in the past few days. I guess Campbell County got hit really bad (plus, most of it is rural) and they are still having major power problems. I was off school Monday and Today, and just got a call that we are off tomorrow too. Sound like it’s a possibility that we’ll be off all week. SWEET! Had I been working for NorthKey, I’d have been at work Monday, wet hair and all (no blow dryers without power!). It would have been hell, seeing that I can’t wash clothes, dry my hair, iron clothes, etc etc etc.

I took Sean to daycare today (since I paid for the week anyway) and got a lot done around the house. Finished raking the sticks and branches out of the front yard; filled my 5th garbage can today with sticks just from the front yard. That should give you some idea about the amount of damage we’re seeing around here. I haven’t even ventured into the backyard yet, which has 3-5 12+ foot branches in it, with countless little branches and sticks. Guess we’ll have to wait until trash pickup again so we have empty trash cans to put them in. What a mess!

Got the fridge cleaned out today. LUCKILY we put off shopping for some reason this weekend, so we only had bare minimum food anyway. Just some milk, eggs, yogurt and cheese. We had 3-4 things of meat in the freezer along with 4-5 frozen dinners, but that’s about it. Unlike some of our neighbors who did their big grocery shopping Saturday, we didn’t suffer too much with throwing away food. Plus, it gave me a good reason to give the fridge a good scrub-down.

Tomorrow I plan on catching up on some laundry and maybe helping my mom clean up a little. She’s been in NY for the past few days so there’s a lot of work to be done at her house 🙂 My guess is that our power will go out again soon. It’s on now, but they still haven’t removed the branches from the two lines on either side of our block. So, more than likely it’ll go out again *sigh* Oh well.

I Have the Poooooooowah!

wow..been busy much?

so we haven’t really posted anything recently. I’ll try to catch up on whats new:
Thursday last week we finally sold our house on Ackerly Drive. The girl who bought it seems really nice and I’m sure she will enjoy the house. We are now the owners of only one home and thankful for that!
Sean caught another cold recently. Has had some coughing and sniffles. Nights have been a tad restless for him, but we have had quite a few 7:15 wake-ups which we will take any day of the week over 5:30 or 6am!
Sunday was not a fun day. My mom sent an email telling us of the fun she had bailing out the basement and cleaning gutters during a downpour and 40 mile an hour winds. I knew that wasn’t good because storms in St. Louis usually make their way to Cincinnati. Around 2pm on Sunday we started getting major wind storms. It was reported that the CVG Airport saw them as strong as 74mph. Our yard is a mess…and on top of that I had to go into work because we lost power in both datacenters. By 330pm or so, I was in the datacenter helping to stabilize power issues, shut down non-essential systems, and migrate database servers to our backups that use less power. I finally left work around 430am on Monday and got to sleep around 515am. The power came back on for us around 530am (which woke us up), so we had to shut down TVs, lights, etc. and close windows.
I woke up at 8am so I could get back to the office by 9am to sit with the generators and monitor servers and networks. We had a couple of flickers at the office and finally regained full power at 2pm almost on the dot.
Then began the fun times of moving servers off reserve power and getting things back to normal. Out of all the power outages we’ve had in the DCs, this was one of the smoothest in both going offline and come back online. It was also a great test on our generators since we went almost a full 24 hours on them.
While the power did come on at our house, it apparently went back out around 930 or 10am. There are trees in the lines at both ends of our street (I got video of it, will try to post it later). The tree at the south end of Graves caught fire, which we are told caused the Transformer (I am unsure if it was a Decepticon or not…but I think so) to blow out. I think Graves ave was the only street in a few block proximity to not have power. Fabulous. Say good bye to everything in the fridge. Don’t worry – I managed to make sure the beer was consumed before it got warm! Whew, that was close!
If you are curious about what a major power outage looks like, you can track Duke Energy’s work on their website HERE (note, use IE..it locks up firefox). At 730pm on Sunday the number out was 688k and change. At 1pm today it was down to 563,000. I’ve seen it as low as 548,000. They are estimating it could take five to seven days to get most of the people online. 90% of their customers were without power. There is another electric company in KY and combined with Duke, over 850,000 customers were without power. Ohio declared a state of emergency yesterday.
Emily took Sean to his new Daycare today. New Daycare you ask? Well yes. Last Monday I was handed a note on my way out of daycare after dropping Sean off. They were closing their doors as of Sept 12. Uh..thanks for the four day notice. Luckily Emily did a bunch of research when we were looking for a daycare and she found one that was only a few streets over with one slot open in their zero to 24 month classes (I say class cause we are calling it school for Sean so he gets used to that word early on). They were also willing to take on a 3 day a week schedule for him, which is rare for daycare these days! ALSO they do weekend and late night baby sitting!! Sounds great right? It gets better! They are opening a new daycare facility for the zero to 24 month old kids…and its right down the street on Graves Ave! Only a block away! So, some clouds to have silver linings.
I’m sure I’ve missed some other updates, but can’t think of them now.

Check your facts…

I’m not big into politics, but I get sick of truth stretching. The republicans did quite a bit of that during their speeches at the National Convention. Here are some specifics picked up by the news agencies Obama isn’t free from the stretching either. That’s why its a good idea to check out http://factcheck.org/

this past weekend…

Tag: Emily,Family,food,Friends,Fun,General,SeanAndrewPaul C. @ 2:34 pm

We had a really fun weekend. My mom came down from St. Louis on Saturday and stayed until Monday. On Sunday, we went to the Conservatory and the Art Museum. The conservatory was really pretty – alot of cool plants. I would have taken more photos, but our main lens for the Nikon D80 is on the fritz so I was using my backup Olympus 750UZ. We didn’t get much time in the Art Museum, but we were able to visit a number of the wings and exhibits. Will have to go back there soon. Sunday night we had dinner at Teak for Emily’s birthday. Its a thai place. Brian tried to order his food with a spice level of 10 (on a scale of 1 to 10), but luckily he let us talk him out of it and ordered a 5 🙂
Monday, mom got to spend the day with Sean while we were at work. We are going to visit her this weekend too, so that will be nice quiet weekend away from Cinci.

Sean likes bath time!
