Over the weekend, my mom volunteered to watch Sean so Emily and I could go out to the movies – we haven’t done that since New Years. We tried to go all out and site in the fancy-pants seating at the new theatre in Florence, KY but it was sold out. We opted for Slumdog Millionaire. I heard it was a good movie, but didn’t know what to expect. Both Emily and I really enjoyed the movie. I’ll probably rent it when it comes out on video and watch it again.
According to Wikipedia, the movie cost around $15 million to produce. As of yesterday, it grossed $189 million worldwide. Thats great news right? It is until I found out today that the kids from the movie – after having a huge Oscar premiere and trip to Disneyland – are now back in the slums from which they were discovered.
The youngest boy who played Salim has taken ill and was was caught on film being beaten by his father. Rubiana who played the young Latika is still starry eyed in the slums – still wearing the light blue dress she wore to the Oscars.
The article says the kids were paid, but it is in a trust fund that they can’t touch until they are 18. I’m guessing they probably weren’t compensated as a child actor from the west.
I hope, with the ~$174million the production has grossed, they will make something right about this.
Took some time during lunch today to fix the gallery. For any geeks reading, GoDaddy doesn’t use netPBM, they use imageMagick so I just to make that in the config. Click here to go to Month 13!
I got the gallery going on our site, matthewandamberly.com, and laryandnarni.com (but i still have to xfer that site fully over).
Slowly but surely. I still have to fix the email for some of my “customers” though 🙂
Sorry for the downtime folks. Here is a brief explanation…well, I will try to be brief:
For the last five years, I have had my website hosted with blueHost.com. They were a great hosting provider, and as of right now, they are offering unlimited domains, unlimited storage space, unlimited bandwidth for their hosting packages. Now to me, that says “I can host the holy heck out of some websites!”.
Apparently this is not the case – false advertising in my eyes. My account was consuming, what they claim, way too much CPU time for the database backend on my websites. It was slowing the server down and the insisted that I should hire someone to “fix my code”. But here is the catch – all the software that run the websites I host on my account are provided by an installer program in their hosting control panel. I point and click, and its installed. Granted, I did do customization, but nothing extreme.
So, after five years, I can now say BlueHost.com can suck an egg. The downside of all this is when my account goes down, so does:
ajallen.net
HearnHappenings.com
LaryAndNarni.com
KurtAndJodie.com
GSGates.net
Go2Fast.net
GoTooFast.com
92turbo.com
So I now have to figure out what I need to do to help all my friends get their servers back online. All during the biggest three work weeks I’ve had in my 7.5 years at Car-Part.com. I’ve been working 6 days a week and many nights during those weeks to tackle problems like internet outages, power outages, and upgrades.
I have a vacation planned in April – going back to Sanibel Island with my families and taking little Sean with me! Emily will get some time off at home!
We will try to catch you up on what has happened over the last few days/week.
I finally got the videos of Sean from our time off last week. This is a video of some of the fun stuff he’s doing these days. It’s a little long…but enjoy!
So, my wife graciously let me go on my annual trip to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit with my car buddies a couple weeks ago. Its a heck of a good time – new models, concept cars, flashy booths. This year was a little different because many manufactures didn’t go – Mitsubishi, Nissan, Infinity, among others.
The show was not crowded at all this year either. Normally you have to fight to get to see the exotic cars like Ferrari and Masarati. No problems this year. The lack of people also made the temperature of Cobo hall bearable 🙂
At night we stay in Canada to hit the clubs and casinos and then head back on Sunday.
Sean’s 3rd tooth (top right) finally came through last night. We tried getting a picture of it, but of course wiggly boys make that near impossible. Check out the picture:
