Where’s George? ®

Where’s George? ®

I’ve recently started doing this with all the bills I come across. You create an account on their site and then enter in the bill’s denomination, printed year, serial number, and if you like, add some notes about where you got the bill and its condition. I think its fun to see where a bill travels. If you google for “wheresgeorge stamps” people even make rubber stamps to stamp the WheresGeorge.com website on the bills you track. I’m waiting for mine to be delivered still. For an idea of how it works, check out their Top 10 bills

Videos

Tag: Fun Links and Stuff,GeneralEmily @ 6:20 am

So I’ve finally decided to put all of our videos from here on out on www.youtube.com.  This way, the videos are easily accessible to everyone, and they won’t bog down our website.  Keep checking back as I try to pick through some old & new videos to upload.  I’ve put a link on the sidebar under the “links” section titled “videos.”  This is a direct link to the youtube site where all the videos will be.

Internet Phone Service

SunRocket Internet Phone Service

emily and I signed up for Sun Rocket internet phone service and the kit arrived this weekend.  If you need our phone number, shoot me an email.   The service is $200 a year if paid annually (comes out to $17 a month) and includes a slew of features and two phone numbers.  The phone numbers can be in just about any area code.  So far its pretty good; I need to tweak the QOS settings on the router to get it just right, but we are pretty happy with it.

It’s been a while…

Tag: Fun Links and Stuff,GeneralPaul C. @ 1:45 pm

I’ts been a while since I have posted a blog entry, so I figured I would do one right now.
Had a trade show last weekend in Sebring, FL. It was about 95 degrees and 80%+ humidty every day. Very pretty, but not a whole lot of fun to be outside until after 4pm. There are some pics of the event in our gallery (page 2, paul’s work photos).
I got the FZR running again Tuesday night and finally got it out of Diana’s garage. The Man Upstairs must ride a motorcycle. Weather was gray and raining tuesday. Got the bike running that night, rode it home in the trickling rain. Woke up Wed. morning to a beautiful sunny (and chilly) morning. Rode to work with a smile on my face 🙂 Haven’t ridden since December and I almost forgot how nice it is. Going to try to ride a couple hundred miles this weekend! Probably going to be my main transportation for the foreseeable future. Talon only gets 16-19mpg, bike gets 40-50. At $3 a gallon, thats a nice bit of savings. Maybe I’ll even look into a newer bike that is slightly more comfortable and has better ammenities. 😉

6 hours to go….

Tag: Family,Fun Links and StuffPaul C. @ 12:58 pm

I about 6 hours we will be boarding our Delta flight to Ft. Myers, FL. Its our annual week long trip to Sanibel Island with Emily’s mom, brother, and stepfather. Here is a skyshot from Google’s Map service:

This one is a little closer with the beach area we spend our days on.

This next image is as close as Google Maps had, but it is close enough to see the pool and even our cabin that we stay in. (I’ve marked them with red circles, if you click on the image for a larger version).

My friend and co-worker, Molly has blessed me by letting me borrow her Verizon Wireless internet PC card for my laptop. Really cool, thanks Molly! Now I can surf the net while sitting in front of the surf!

Want out of a cell phone contract? here’s how.

Roaming Hack

I thought this was really cool. It basically tells you something obvious: that free nationwide roaming does not apply to the bills your provider has to pay for the towers your cell latches on to. Make your roaming charges (69 cents a minute) cost more than your bill and they will likely terminate your contract. And you don’t pay a termination fee.

Intel Core Duo USB Issue

AnandTech: Intel Core Duo USB Issue: A Mischaracterized Bug

I’ve been reading about the new Intel Dual core CPU for the notebook computers, and about a “bug” found in Windows XP SP2. At first, the bug was thought to be a Duo issue, but after reading Anand’s write up on it, it is apparently a bug with XP SP2’s USB 2.0 driver and how it utilizes power. If you have a notebook and it has XP SP2 and an intel chip, you may want to read this and apply the registry patch described within.

Cars..

Tag: Fun Links and StuffPaul C. @ 2:13 pm

While going through the recent posts during lunch on AutoBlog, it got me thinking of the cars I have driven since I got my license. Here is my list:

  • 1983 Dodge Ram Pioneer Van -two tone brown (tan with dark brown mid section all around), tan plaid interior. Shared this with Sean. Nickname was C-Tank. The Tank was traded in for my mom’s 93 Explorer in 93.
  • 1987 Honda Civic Si – red, first manual transmission. Went through three clutches. This is one of the cars that kept Steve’s Auto Body in O’Fallon, IL in the black finiancially, I’m sure ;). Shared this one with Sean as well. Sean and I installed a sony CD player, Sony MKII90 equalizer, some generic amplifier and some 6×9’s dad put in boxes in the hatch. I think we later added a sub to the mix. I finally killed the Civic driving to work (Baskin Robbins). Was messing with the stereo and nailed the end of an highway island divider curb at 40mph.
  • 1988 Mitsubishi Montero Sport – 2 Door, 5 speed, Red. I LOVED this truck. It wasn’t fast, but it was rugged (except for the transmission…) and could go anywhere. If want to own another one of these one day. You can still find Montero’s and its cousin the Dodge Raider around the US. I sold this for $350 (KBB private party was $3000) after Auffenburg Mitsubishi in O’Fallon, IL diagnosed it with a bad block or head or something. Sold it to a friend of my sisters and it turned out to be bad spark plugs in 3 of the cylinders. I was really ticked off.
  • 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD – white, 5 speed, turbo, all wheel drive. Loved this car too. Parents weren’t happy about another turbo car after Sean’s Ford Probe GT fiasco, but I was in heaven. This lead me to the DSM Community. Sold the car in Dec 2001 to a St. Louis DSM member when I bought my next one
  • 1992 Eagle Talon TSI FWD – Maroon, 5 speed, red(!!) interior. Its sad when you buy a new car to replace another and realize the first day…that you don’t like it as much. Going from an AWD car to a FWD car was a big let-down. Torque steer in the snow or rain is not fun. Never-the-less, this car had low miles, was in decent shape, so it was OK for a daily driver. I had fun modifying it though. Of course, when I saw and ad on the Cinci DSM Yahoo Groups for my next car, I didn’t think twice about selling this one!!
  • 1998 Eagle Talon TSI AWD – Black w/ grey leather, 5 speed, AWD – I got this car for pretty much a steal – about $2500+ less than the KBB value. It was already pretty modified (suspension, exhaust, intake, and some others), had only ~60k miles, and much to emily’s happiness – it had airbags. Since I bought it, I’ve upgraded the injectors, fuel pump, pump, turbo, added a front mount intercooler, new wheels, paint job plus new bumper cover and drivers side fender, stereo and other things.
  • Also have my 94 Yamaha FZR 600R motorcycle 🙂
So whats next? I know I will have to get something that has four doors, or can easily haul kids around, but it still can be fun! Maybe I will go back to the truck route with the Toyota FJ Cruiser, Jeep Liberty Renegade, or Wrangler…or maybe I will stick with teh fun 4 cyl cars and go with an EVO or WRX/STI. There are so many cars out now and that will be out in the next 2-3 years, its going to be a tough choice. I’ll probably have to stick with the Talon until we are settled into the new mortgage.
What about you? what have you been behind the wheel of?
