Arthur & Meghan’s Wedding

Tag: Family,GeneralEmily @ 4:50 pm

I traveled to New York this past weekend for my cousin Arthur and his fiance Meghan’s wedding. The rehearsal dinner was located at my mom’s cabin. My mom, grandma, and I cooked like crazy all day Friday. The dinner was Ramen noodle salad, rolls, stuffed cornish hens, wild rice, stuffed tomatoes, and for dessert chocolate covered strawberries and my mom’s famous New York cheesecake. YUM!

The wedding was on the lookout of the mountaintop that my uncle owns by Antler Lake, NY. The weather was beautiful and so was the wedding.

The reception was at Arthur’s house in Northville, NY. It was quite a drive from the wedding (an hour) but it was well worth the drive. Meghan’s parents brought in tons of fish and cooked all of the food for the reception themselves. It was amazing; homemade stuffed flounder, lobster pasta, clam chowder, and tons more. It was so nice to hang out with family that I haven’t seen in years. All my cousins are getting so big; I feel so old 🙂

A force to be reckoned with

Today I went to one of my little brother Philip’s football games. He plays JV for Lloyd High School. The team is really small this year, so all the players stay in most the game. He’s really enjoying football this year, and he’s getting really good at it! He made some great plays & tackles today. He used to be one of the smaller players when he started playing football years ago, now he’s the biggest guy on his team. I sure wouldn’t want to be across from him on the line! Those poor guys were getting pummeled and smashed every play!

Brian & Ashley’s Engagement Party

Tag: Family,Friends,GeneralEmily @ 9:58 pm

We had a fun-filled weekend! Brian and Emily’s sister Cate came Wednesday from New York for the week. Saturday morning, all of Ashley’s bridesmaids went to Reading, Ohio to look for bridesmaids’ dresses. We narrowed it down to two or three dresses that Ashley and we really liked. Saturday night was Brian and Ashley’s engagement party. It was held in Diana’s backyard. Lots of family, friends, and the bridal party came; the weather was great, we had a huge cookout, and had three sets of cornhole going at once. It was a great party! I uploaded a lot of pictures; hopefully Ashley and Brian will decide on a website name soon so we can get theirs up and running *wink wink nudge nudge*. Click on the picture below to see more pictures from Saturday.

My brother Brian and his fiance Ashley closed on their new home yesterday! We went out for a nice dinner with the family and then went over to the house. It’s a GREAT old house, needs a lot of work but that’s what they like to do. We’re so happy that they are back in town! They were in Florida and most recently in Dayton, OH. Paul is working to get them a website up and going so we can see progress on the house and upcoming wedding!!

New York

Tag: Family,General,VacationEmily @ 12:35 pm

We’re back from our wonderfully restful New York vacation! We went from June 23 – July 3rd. We got to see lots of family and spend a lot of time doing nothing but relaxing; which we really needed.

We left KY Friday the 23rd and drove 9 hours to Syracuse, NY. When we got there at 2:30am we decided to stop instead of driving the last 3 hours that night. We got up at 7am and finished the drive, got to Emily’s dad’s house in time to jump in the shower, get dressed and head out for Cate’s (Emily’s sister) high school graduation. The ceremony was very nice and Colleen got to hand Cate her diploma which was really cool. We went out to eat and mini golfing after the ceremony.

Sunday was Cate’s graduation party at our Uncle Danny’s house (Colleen’s brother). It was a little warm and muggy, but we had great food and played some great rounds of cornhole! We again went mini-golfing afterwards (one of our family’s favorite pastimes).

Monday – Thursday Paul and I pretty much stayed at my mom’s cabin while she flew back to KY to drop my brother off at a summer camp. Her cabin is now finished, and beautiful! We had a nice relaxing time there, even though it rained the whole time. We had quite the fiasco with their motorboat on the lake. There had been so much rain that the boat flooded and came withing 3 inches of sinking! The road out to the lakefront where the boat was moored was flooded, so I had to get in the little dingy and row about 200 yards out to it. I spent the next hour bilging and bailing water; what fun! My mom also lost her very expensive kayak to the flood, but Phil ended up finding it on Saturday; it had been found by a boy a few camps down the lake.

On Saturday, Paul and I went to my dad’s camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake. The Lake was flooded as well, it had risen about 4 feet in a matter of days. Everyone’s docks were torn apart or sunken, and many boats were flipped over and sunk. Even the mooring balls that boats were tied to on the lake were under water, it was so flooded.
We went to the Sacandaga dam, which usually barely has a trickle of water, but since the water was so high, it was gushing over it like Niagra Falls. There were tons of people out on the road taking pictures and video. Apparently, it’s only the 5th time since 1930 that it’s gushed over the dam like that. Pretty cool.
We had a nice time at the cabin, Meg got to swim, we watched some fireworks from my uncle’s camp down the road, and ate smore’s by the fire that night.

Megabyte went with us to New York. She had an unbelievable time; she got to sit out on screen porches the whole time and smell all the woodsy Adirondack smells, and got to go swimming for the first time in her life. We got some really cute pictures of her swimming and hanging out.

I got to read a few of my books in the Left Behind series; I’m now on book 8: The Mark. Philip (my little brother) is still reading them, and my mom has started the series as well.

That’s all for now; be sure to check out all the pictures from our trip in our gallery, there’s pictures in the following folders: Cate’s Graduation, Diana’s Cabin, Megabyte, and Vacations.

Mom’s cabin

Tag: Family,General,VacationEmily @ 12:56 pm

Spent the weekend of June 2-4 in New York for the official “move in” of my mom’s cabin. We finally got some pictures online (see below). The cabin is beautiful!!! Paul and I drove her two dogs up there along with my little brother. Crazy, quick weekend.
Paul and I are going up to NY again in a few weeks, so we’ll get some more pictures of her cabin and stuff. We’re even going to take Megabyte with us! She’s never been to New York before, so she’ll get to meet all of her NY family 🙂

Colleen and Cate came down this weekend from NY to visit Brian and me. They came on Wednesday and left last night (Sat). They stayed with me in the new house, and since Paul was out of town for work, it was a girl’s weekend! They got to do a lot of sightseeing, shopping and more shopping (sorry Dad!). They got to experience Buffalo Wild Wings for the first time while they were here. We had some other things on our list, like White Castle and Skyline Chili, but Cate’s stomach after eating wings that were a weeeee bit to hot the day before, couldnt’ handle the rest of the crazy food we eat down here in KY 🙂 Guess we’ll have to save those for the next trip!

We drove up to Brian and Ashley’s apartment in Dayton, OH for dinner. We ate at Cold Stone Creamery after stuffing ourselves w/dinner. Yum.

On Saturday before they left we went up to Turtle Creek Flea Market in Cincinnati. It was a lot of fun and reminded us of the good ‘ol days of flea market shopping on the long car trip to KY every year. Everyone got a few cute knick knacks. I got a little glass top jar to put miniature seashells in for one of the bathrooms. Ahh…the joy of flea markets, such a beautiful place 🙂

They had a pretty rough time getting home last night, had to fly into Pennsylvania then drive 5 hours to Albany, NY to pick up their car, then drive 1.5 hours home. Bleh. So goes life on standby sometimes.

Overall, we all had a great extended weekend. Cate & Colleen totally fell in love w/Megabyte this weekend and tried to figure out a way to stuff her in their suitcases. Got some really cute pictures of Cate & Meg:

This next image is as close as Google Maps had, but it is close enough to see the pool and even our cabin that we stay in. (I’ve marked them with red circles, if you click on the image for a larger version).

My friend and co-worker, Molly has blessed me by letting me borrow her Verizon Wireless internet PC card for my laptop. Really cool, thanks Molly! Now I can surf the net while sitting in front of the surf!
