HVAC rough-in and bricks delivered

Tag: The HouseEmily @ 11:23 am

We haven’t posted on the house in about a week. There hasnt’ been much huge progress, just some small items that take a lot of time. Over the weekend, Paul and I went out and they had done the HVAC rough-in. All the holes were cut for the vents in the rooms, and some of the duct work was installed. The vent hoses for the fans in the bathrooms were also installed. There’s also some pictures of our windows , front door, and basement (they installed the stairs).

Yesterday (Monday) I went out to the house and saw that the bricks had been delivered. LJ (sales counselor) said that the bricks should only take 1.5 days if it doesn’t rain.

Only 1.5 days for bricks? I know the process goes fast and they will have alot of masons onsite…but i always heard you can only lay so many rows of bricks in a day and you have to let the mortor setup before laying more due to the weight of the bricks. You might want to check that. It will be fast but 1.5 days is too fast for bricks in my opinion. It should take closer to 3-4 days to do a two story house. Now that is not full days. It is come lay some bricks one day in a few hours then come back the next day after the mortor has set. Maybe they are using quick set motor i dont know it just seems fast to me.

Keep in mind, we only have the front of the house that is being bricked, the rest is siding.

Well that will speed it up. But my main point is wet motor can only support so much weight. So by telling you they will be done in a day and a half i would have to assume the will lay the lower 1/2 of the house one day and the upper 1/2 the next day. In my opinion that is too much weight for wet motor. They did my two story in 4 layers and were rotating around the house to give the motor extra time to set. Maybe they are using something we dont have down here that sets faster. I dont know, its just my 2 cents. Take it for what its worth.

Paul… irrelevent now, but there is no problem with the brick going up that fast. They are using a mortar mix that is quick setting, thus less water so it doesn’t need as much time to dry. Common for decorative brick fronts.
