Why do people keep assuming I’m some sort of left wing nut job? The fact is that I used to consider myself a Republican. To this day I am a great admirer of Ronald Reagan. It is NOT my politics that have changed, but the Republican party.
Republicans used to be the party of “less government.” But since the religious right has come to dominate the party, the GOP has lost sight of that. Instead they are seeking to legislate things that the government has no business legislating. For me the absolute last straw was the Terry Schiavo case of last year. What the hell business did Bush and Congress have getting involved in that!?!?
And why are we in Iraq? Defenders of the war say it’s because we were attacked on 9-11, but what does one have to do with the other? Saddam was not involved in that, he had no ties to Al Qaeda, and there were no Iraqis among the hijackers.
Yes, I’m voting for Democrats next week, but only because I’m a Goldwater Republican.

Thanks for the post! I too, used to consider myself a republican and admire Pres. Reagan.
