11.5 weeks

Tag: Baby,Emily,General,ReligionEmily @ 6:33 am

I haven’t posted awhile about how I’m doing.  I’ve actually been feeling a lot better lately.  I went to the doctor last Thursday for a checkup and he gave me new prenatal vitamins.  The ones I had been taking were making me very sick, and I was at the point of crying before I took them because of how awful I knew I’d feel within 1/2 hour.  So, he gave me new ones, and they are great for 3 reasons:  1)  They are purple (my fav. color) 2) They are TINY (about the size of a Tylenol) 3) They don’t make me sick.

I’m so excited about hitting the 3 month mark on Tuesday!  Time has really flown by since we’ve told everyone.  We’ve been really busy lately and I guess that helps too.   I imagine that with all the holidays coming up that my pregnancy will just fly by from this point on.

I have Emmaus training starting up this weekend as well.  I’ll be doing that at least once a week until October.  The walk is Oct 11-14.

That’s all for now!

4 years ago today….

Tag: Emily,Family,Friends,General,PaulPaul C. @ 1:26 pm

Its 2:15pm and 4 years ago, right now, I was scrambling around my house getting tuxedo stuff together. Four years ago today, there were a bunch of guys at my house swapping tuxedo pants, shoes, and shirts trying to figure out who was wearing who’s clothing. Four years ago today, there was a beautiful woman fitting into a white gown, smelling some purple and white flowers. Four years ago today, there were 150 of our closest friends and family gathering in a church.

Four years ago today, I married my college sweetheart, Emily. Talk about making smart decisions in life 🙂 Since that day, we have lived in two houses (plus a surrogate third floor dwelling of the Taliaferro house), been on two Caribbean Cruises, traveled to Seattle, New York, New Orleans, and St. Louis. We’ve watched her brother Brian get married, and helped Philip learn to drive. We’ve been on vacations with family, including my brother Sean, watched my sister graduate from college and then her double masters program.  And now, we are planning for our first child!
When you get into a long term relationship with someone, you may often wonder “Do I know what I’m getting myself into?”. (It was actually a question oft asked by Emily when I was going to meet her family for the first time. And yes, Phil, Love is a many splendored thing). But do I yet know what I am getting myself into? No, you never really know. Things can go completely wrong, can be boring, or as I have found, can be really exciting and enjoyable when you find the right person.

4 years … and while I may reminisce, I will never look back. Happy Anniversary Emily! I love you!

NY Pictures Up

Tag: General,VacationEmily @ 8:52 am

We have all the pictures from New York online now.

We had a really great time in NY.  We got there Thursday night and stayed at Diana’s cabin, since Cate was getting her wisdom teeth out the next morning.  On Friday, Cate and her boyfriend Brian came over to the cabin.  We hung out awhile, went for some ice cream, and then had dinner with Heinz, Colleen, and Diana.  Cate was doing amazingly well for just having 4 wisdom teeth out; she even had a hamburger for dinner!

Saturday, we took the boat to the Schroon Lake marina/beach and went into town and had a bite to eat.  We also got some maple syrup to bring back to friends.  We went fishing that night off the beach and caught a ton of fish.  Emily caught a 17.5 inch Northern Pike!

Sunday we headed over to Heinz & Colleen’s cabin on Sacadaga Lake.  We ate some lunch, and hung out on the beach with Eddie & Wendy (Colleen’s brother and sister-in-law).  The dogs, Bailey and Sherman had a blast chasing sticks in the water and eachother!

We had a great time, even though it was a short visit.

10 Weeks

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 8:42 pm

Finishing off week 9 tonight…I’ll be 10 weeks tomorrow! It’s hard to believe; time has been going by really fast the past 2 weeks.
I’m still not feeling too great; I’ll have 2-3 hours each workday where I’ll feel ok, then it’s back to nausea for the rest of the workday and evening. I did feel ok in New York this past weekend. I think it had a lot to do with being off work and away from everyday stresses. I’m still not sleeping well, trying to get used to sleeping on my side, since I’m normally a back-sleeper. In a few weeks I won’t be allowed to sleep on my back anymore, so I’m trying to practice. Getting up 5 times at night to use the bathroom doesn’t help matters too much either.

I’m hoping that by the end of three months (in 2-3 weeks) my nausea will have subsided. *crossing fingers*
Oh, and I’ve gained 4 pounds already. Eep! It’s not much, but it’s hard to adjust to not being able to just go on a quick diet or exercise a lot to get rid of that. I’m still trying to let the fact that gaining weight is ok settle in my mind 🙂

I have a follow-up appointment with my OB Thursday to go over ultrasounds from 2 weeks ago, and check up on my progress. Hopefully everything’s coming along great!

ahhh…the great outdoors!

Tag: GeneralPaul C. @ 1:17 am

Emily and I are in Adirondack, NY at Phil and Diana’s cabin for a brief three day weekend.  Its amazing how this place has changed since I was here last June!  For one, its not raining (nor has it been for the previous five days like last year) and there is grass in the back yard area.  We didn’t get here until after 11pm so it was too dark to get down to the lake and check out the road.  Will do that tomorrow.

Finally back to normal

Tag: Cars,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 11:22 am

I finally got my new car hood yesterday.  I looks really great, but already has 2 bug splats on it :-(  Pretty soon it’ll have rock dings and everything….oh well.  Looks really wonderful though!

Ask me why I’m doing this…

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 8:47 pm

Ok, so I’ve decided to put my “belly” pictures online.  What female in their right mind would put pictures of themselves online gaining weight?!?  Argh.  Oh well, I’m sure people want to see it.  Paul has been taking a picture of me every week since we found out we were pregnant, to be able to watch my belly grow.  There hasn’t been much change yet, only a little thickening of my waist and a tiny little pooch starting 🙂

Soon I’ll be a house…hehe.

Maternity clothes already?

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 6:33 am

As unbelievable as it may sound, I’ve already started wearing some maternity clothes. The clothes I usually wear are more ‘fitted’ in style, so they aren’t taking to my expanding waistline as much as I’d like. I spent the last 2 weeks looping hair ties through my button holes and around my buttons to add an extra inch or so to all my pants. Well, that’s not quite working anymore, and it’s getting uncomfortable to squish into my clothes.

Colleen was in town this weekend, so we took a ride to Kohl’s and the mall and got a pair of maternity jeans and khakis. I swear, they are the most comfortable things ever! There’s something to say about having a big elastic band around your waist…easy on/off, comfy as heck, and a personal joy of “Yay, I’m pregnant!” even though most can’t tell just by looking at me. 🙂

I’m 9 weeks now…this is what my little one should be looking like…how cute!

Changes….and a bit of a weekly recap.

Getting restless with the website. Its been online in this format since at least December 2005. Those that know me well, know that I get restless after 2 or 3 years of the same old same old 🙂 Maybe that explains my car “habit” (time for a change about now isn’t it?). I guess it goes back to my military childhood of moving every two to three years.
Anyway, I’m thinking its about time for a theme change on the old blog. Of course I haven’t mentioned it to Emily yet 🙂 This all came about after doing some work on Heather and Ashley‘s blogs. I think I am still using an older version of the blog software, so it would have to be upgraded to the 2.x version to work with many new formats and layouts. So keep your eyes peeled, there may be some new changes afoot.
On an unrelated note, my Dad is doing really well. His recent trip to the oncologist brought back some very positive feedback on his treatment. At 42% reduction in the tumor size and a significant reduction in the [stuff] they measure for cancer in the blood. As Mom says, he is a poster boy for his current treatment plan 🙂 Their website is listed on the links to the right of the website.
Emily and I will be going to New York for the first weekend in August. We’ll be visiting her dad and stepmom and spending some time at Diana’s cabin. Maybe I can finally watch a movie in the home theater room that I designed and installed? (and never got to have fun with!)
My brother is taking the Motorcycle Safety Course up in Seattle this weekend. I think everyone should take this class.  Heck, even if you don’t plan on getting your two wheel note on your ID, I encourage anyone to take it. Could save the lives of many of us on two wheels. Plus you will learn the thrill of riding a motorcycle. Its truly a freeing feeling.
Guess I should go to bed now as work draws near.
