Update…

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 5:05 pm

Ok, another little update for everyone:

Last night I noticed a little rash around my belly button that was itching like mad. When I woke up this morning, it was all over my abdomen…what fun! I emailed my doctor and asked what to do, and he had me come in today to see him. Result: I have PUPPP (if you click the link, mine looks like the 3rd picture). Basically, it’s a non-harmful itches-like-mad rash that some women get during the last few weeks of their pregnancy. Not much you can do for it except Benadryl and Benadryl cream and trying not to itch. So far it feels very much like poison ivy all over my stomach…such a joyous thing! So, that on top of my already making-me-miserable sinus infection = a not so happy or pleasant Emily.

On a good note however, he did check me today and I’m now 60% effaced and 2 centimeters dilated! Whoa! He said that if I don’t go into labor before Monday, he wants to see me on Monday, and to consider an induction on Tuesday. So…I have a lot to think about. I’m not really super-thrilled about an induction, but with the way I’m feeling lately, It’s rather tempting. Especially if this rash is only going to get worse until I deliver.

So…some bad news, some good. More updates as things progress…

Completely miserable

Tag: Baby,GeneralEmily @ 9:22 pm

So again, I’m sick. I caught a bad sinus cold about 3 weeks ago and suffered through it and seem to have gotten it again…well, unless I just never got rid of it. Seems to be worse this time, can’t breathe at all, coughing up a lung it seems, and constant headache. I even had a fever last night and had to call my doctor just to make sure everything was okay. I’ve been on the couch for 2 days, and luckily I have off work tomorrow as well to continue to rest. I’ve been trying to pack a little bit here and there when I get some energy.

To add to it, Little Sean continues to grow, despite the fact that I swear I have no more room for him. And everything on the internet that says that babies start to ‘slow down’ in the last few weeks is a lie! He’s busy as ever in there, doing his gymboree time and soccer playing. Even when I’m sick this kid doesn’t give me a break! 🙂

I have also started to have some stronger contractions in the last few days. Now 1-2 times a day they are actually strong enough that I have to stop what I’m doing and relax through them. Hopefully that’s a sign that things are moving along! Little Sean; however, HATES them. Every time a contraction stops, I laugh because he kicks and punches for about 30 seconds as if to say “Hey!! I’m cramped enough in here, quit smashing me!!”

I’m stuck in the middle of whether I want him to come early (I’m SO done with being pregnant – I don’t think being sick helps very much) or late (after we move) to make the move easier. At this point I’m hoping for early, but I doubt I’d be that lucky. Colleen’s guess is coming up quickly…maybe he likes his grandma and will want her to win ;-)!

eep!

So I just happened to look at our countdown timer just now, and saw that it said twenty days and some odd hours and minutes.  Wow.  It really is coming up soon.  In 20 to 27 days, I will be sitting at Christ Hospital with my notebook in my lap, trying to console my wonderful wife who is going  through labor.  I’ve watched the TV shows, the videos, talked to friends – and this is certainly why guys don’t go thru labor. Its a woman thing and we guys couldn’t deal with it.

Twenty days – I will have a son, I will be (hopefully) moved into my new house, will have family and friends all around us, and experiencing life from a whole new meaning.  I’m very much looking forward to the next 30 days, as it ought to be very interesting!!

You did what??? Why??

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 10:11 am

Ok. Sit down (you probably are) and take a deep breath. Paul and I did something a little crazy yesterday. Ready? We bought a house…and it’s across the street from my mom again. Well, we got our offer accepted anyway, so pretty much the same thing. What?! Why?! We know, it’s crazy, wild, unthinkable and just plain bad timing (with the baby coming), but it was an opportunity that we really couldn’t pass up.

My mom’s (and Brian and Ashley’s) neighbors and friends who work for Comair are being transfered to Alaska in 1.5 months. Their house, which everyone has always admired, was obviously going up for sale. On Friday night, Brian jokingly said to us “you should buy their house.” We all laughed it off, but after a few minutes of thinking, and realizing which house it was, we thought…what the hay, let’s walk through it to check it out. Matt, the owner, has spent the last few years gutting, remodeling, putting on new siding, and installing all new windows, and has probably dumped about $50,000 into it. We were at least curious to see what the inside looks like, because the outside is just adorable.

Paul and I walked through Saturday night and were amazed. Hardwood floors throughout (although they carpeted the upstairs), tile floor in the kitchen and bathrooms, a deck that was converted into a beautiful sun room, 4 bedrooms, a completely remodeled upstairs bathroom with pocket door and jacuzzi bathtub (oh, yes), refinished 3rd floor area that can be used as an office or additional bedroom, a basement that has about 10ft ceilings, and a completely remodeled kitchen with new solid-surface countertops, new cabinets and brand new stainless steel appliances. It also has a huge yard, brand new sidewalks and driveway, 2 car garage and a really cool storage room under the sun room where you can store outdoor equipment, Paul’s motorcycle or even make it a workroom (it’s Paul’s favorite thing!).

We liked the house and stayed up until about 1:30 in the morning actually considering putting an offer on it. We walked through the house again yesterday with the realtor. The reason we had to move quickly on it was because the house wasn’t even on the market yet (it will be as of today, Monday) and there were already 2 showings after us, a walk-up that wanted a showing, and 3 other realtors calling Holly asking for showing times for Monday. This house was going, and going fast. If you aren’t from around here, this particular street and block is highly desirable, and houses that go up for sale on it are typically sold by word of mouth before the realtor can even get the sign in the yard. So, we knew that if we wanted a chance at it, we had to put down an offer. So we did, and they accepted it. And…it was only about $6,000 more than what we paid for our house we built. Wow.

Here’s our thought process (well, combined with everyone else’s input) ;-). We did just build our house 2 years ago, and it seems silly to move out of a perfectly good house, especially with a baby due any day. But, as people say, you only live once. Also, as my aunt said, “when else in your life do you get the opportunity to live so close to family and have that type of community, AND have a great house?” We spend so much time at my mom’s and with Brian and Ashley anyway that we’ve come to miss the “community” of that street. It’s sad to think that we know every person on that street and don’t even live there, and have lived here for 2 years and know 1 neighbor…well, at least their names.

Check out pictures of the house (taken from Holly’s page, and Paul’s phone):

What the french toast?

Tag: Fun,GeneralEmily @ 8:18 am

As anyone who spends any time with Brian knows, he loves the phrase “oh, for crying out loud.” We all joke about it. A week or two ago, Ashley responded to something someone said by saying “son of a biscuit eater.” A few days later, I saw this Orbit Gum ad on tv and thought that’s where Ashley got it from. We watched in on you tube and were all cracking up laughing. We’ve been saying the phrases ever since. My favorite obviously is “what the french toast?”

Check it out, hopefully it’ll give you a good laugh: CLICK HERE
Found the script for it too, since some are hard to understand:

You son of a biscuit eating bulldog!
What the french toast?
You think I wouldn’t find out about your little doo doo head cootie queen?!
Who are you calling a cootie queen you lint licker!
Pickle you kumquat!!
You’re overreacting!
No Bill, overreacting was when I took your convertible into a wood chipper stinky mcstink face!
Oh, you hoboken

🙂

Need a hat?

One of the gifts we got for Emily’s shower was made by my sister, Megan.  Megan has taken up knitting and, by damn, she is good at it!  The photo below doesn’t really show the detail of the stitches (is that what you call it in knitting?) but its pretty amazing how the turned out! She is really good at this stuff!

Slowly but surely…

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 3:42 pm

I saw my doctor for my weekly visit today.  He gave me good news that my cervix is starting to efface.  Yay!  I realize that doesn’t mean anything in terms of a timeline for delivery, but it made me happy to know that things were starting to move in the right direction.  I was glad that he said that things were starting because I’ve been cramping a bit lately and having Braxton Hicks contractions out the wazoo, and have been a little “sore”.

My doctor said that Little Sean is head down (where he’s suppose to be), and facing the correct direction (even better) so it’s just a matter of waiting now…

Counting the days….

36 down, 4(ish) to go!

Tag: Baby,Emily,GeneralEmily @ 8:59 pm

Wow, I can’t believe that I’ve hit the 36 week mark!  Under 30 days now (as long as he cooperates).  Paul and I are so excited to meet Little Sean; we sit in his room every night and look at his cute stuff and dream about how we’re only days away from meeting our little boy!  He’s still kicking like crazy and loves to make my stomach lopsided by sticking his butt out my right side.  I have feet sticking out the left and a butt to the right.  This boy is going to love to stretch when he gets out!

Paul also took some really cool pictures of my tummy tonight; I put them in blank and white (much more pleasing to the eye…hehe) and cropped them up a bit and they really look amazing.  Sorry for you all of you in internet-land though, you can’t see them.  They show some parts of me that I don’t want hopping around on the internet 😉

Check out the 36 week picture by clicking here.  Not too many of these left!

Remember to vote if you haven’t already, for the date he’s born.  Click here to see the calendar.
