Call me Mr. Squirt

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 9:28 pm

We had a great time yesterday with Steph Carson.  She was here for about an hour and took tons of great pictures of Little Sean.  She also fell in love with Megabyte and shot quite a few pictures of her as well!  We did a lot of naked pictures of Sean.  He seemed to love being nakey for the pictures and showed off his stuff to Steph :-)  We did some cute shots with him lying on our brand new white living room rug (yeah, it was cute, but as you are probably thinking…a mistake).  He peed twice on the rug!  We were cracking up laughing as Steph was trying to dodge the streams of pee shooting up towards her.  Later, Paul was holding Little Sean while he was naked and he peed twice on Paul!  When he stood up from holding Sean, his entire lap and pants of his jeans were sopping wet with pee.  It was quite the funny photo shoot!

Steph says that she’ll have the pictures ready in 2 weeks.  Basically, she gives us a CD with the images to upload to a photography website, where anyone can go and look at the pictures and order them.  It’s a really neat idea, because everyone can look at them, and order exactly what they want.  The pictures are apparantely really cheap too, with an 8×10 only costing about $4!  We’ll post when those are available to look at and order.

What a busy 24 hours!

Tag: Emily,General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 9:43 pm

Little Sean had quite the adventurous 24 hours! Last night everyone came over to watch Lost, and afterwards, my mom and aunt joked (I thought) about taking him for the night after I made a comment about needing to get to bed because I was tired. After some astonishment on my part, and explanation on their part that between the two of them they had 8 kids and besides, really really wanted a night with him, they took our little boy across the street for his first sleepover at Grandma’s house. He did wonderful overnight with them and they soaked up every minute. It was hard for me to get him back, as they wanted to kidnap him forever! It was such a sweet gesture; Paul and I got some very much needed time together that we haven’t had in over 4 weeks. It was nice to just have the two of us for awhile and spend quality time together 🙂

When they brought Sean back to me this morning, he was so cute! He immediately snuggled up to me and seemed to be saying “oh mommy, I missed you!” I pulled him away from me and started talking to him and he smiled his very first smile at me! My mom saw it too and we were amazed and excited!! I hope he does it again soon, it just melted my heart!

We also went on our first neighborhood walk today. He was wrapped up in his sling that his Auntie Megan got him and fell right asleep. It was nice to get out and get a little exercise and enjoy the nice weather!

Steph Carson (the photographer that took Brian and Ashley’s wedding pictures) is coming tomorrow morning to take professional pictures of Sean. We are really excited to see how they turn out! Steph is amazing.

My mom also took some pictures of Sean and me. I don’t have any (except for the hospital ones) of the two of us. Click below to see them:

Fun with the playmat

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 8:21 pm

Little Sean is getting so big!  He was weighed on Saturday and was 8lbs 4oz.  He’s gained a lot of weight and gotten longer too!  He’s finally starting to fit into some of his 0-3 month clothes that everyone got him too.  He’s getting so big I can’t stand it!  Pretty soon he’ll be sitting up and crawling!
Sean tried out his playmat a lot today.  He’s really starting to like it!  Got some more cute sleepy pictures too. 🙂

Sweetest boy ever

Tag: General,SeanAndrewEmily @ 10:00 pm

We officially have the sweetest boy ever!  We can’t believe that he’ll be 3 weeks old on Tuesday…time really flies!

We also moved into our new house this weekend.  We really love it and are having fun putting everything away.  It’s very homey and we can’t wait for little Sean to grow up here.

There’s some more pictures up; we have more every day and hopefully as I get into a schedule with him I’ll get more time to post them and get more pictures as well.  We’re trying to get more pictures of him awake; we have so many of him sleeping!

This is one of my favorites:

Sorry about lack of pics…

Tag: GeneralEmily @ 1:40 pm

Sorry that we’ve been slacking on the pictures; we’ve been a little preoccupied lately 🙂

I put some pictures up of the start of his 2nd week; before we left for St Louis.  We have a bunch that we’ve taken here, but we may not get around to posting them until we get home later this week.

Little Sean has been doing all kinds of new things.  He’s been lifting his head up quite a bit (he’s really strong!), he enjoys pushing up with his legs to stand up when you are holding him, and since yesterday, has been on a never ending quest to get his thumb into his mouth.  He got it in there last night and it was quite a shock to him about how wonderful it was, so now he spends tons of time concentrating on trying to get that thing back in his mouth.  Hopefully if he does it we have the camera ready!

Thanks to everyone for all their thoughts and prayers; we really appreciate it.

Dad’s Obituary and donation info

Tag: Family,GeneralPaul C. @ 2:16 pm

Lawrence J. (Lary) Cahill, Colonel (Ret), USAF, died March 6th after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.  Born in Elizabeth, NJ on December 8, 1943 Lary was a military “brat” during his father’s Air Force career.  In 1965 he graduated from Rutgers University and was commissioned in the Air Force where his 27 year career was in the communications field.  He retired at Scott AFB and had a second career in the Information Technology field and worked at Sparta Community Hospital, Deltanet and the American Red Cross.

Lary was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marie Cahill.  Surviving are his wife Narni; son Sean Robert Cahill of Seattle; son Paul Lawrence (Emily) Cahill and grandson Sean Andrew Cahill of Cincinnati; daughter Megan-Marie Keith Cahill of St. Louis; brother Robert (Jeannie) Cahill of North Carolina; mother-in-law Keith Hatch of O’Fallon; his constant canine companion and nurse, Baxter; and his many friends and coworkers from the Air Force and the American Red Cross.

Lary was devoted to his family.  His wife and children were his first priority and he was thrilled at the prospect of a grandchild.  He was always into a project at his house and garden and will be sorely missed as the “fix anything” man.  He had a dry, quirky sense of humor, an incredible memory and an enviable ability for correct spelling.  He was comfortable with who he was and was never involved in “one upmanship”.  He was highly respected everyplace he worked and his family and coworkers knew he never missed a deadline and always finished what he started.  He was noted for his woodworking.  His home is filled with his beautiful creations.  All of his children learned their computer skills and their work ethic from Lary.

Lary set an example to all who knew him of how to face adversity and never give up, never complain.  Throughout his 11 months of cancer treatment he continued to work for the American Red Cross until the day he entered Hospice.  He was a special man who made a true imprint on the lives of his family, friends and coworkers.

Special thanks:  To Dr. Stephen Sorcher and the staff at the Barnes Siteman Center who helped Lary have many extra months with us; To the BJC Hospice nurses who made his last weeks comfortable; Saint Louis Art Museum and American Red Cross coworkers who sent cards, letters, gift certificates, etc; and To our many friends and family who have been a constant blessing in our lives.

In lieu of flowers donations are gratefully accepted in Lary’s memory at

Its never good bye, it’s see you later.

Tag: Family,Friends,General,PaulPaul C. @ 1:13 am

Dad passed away tonight shortly after I posted the previous note.  He left us around 6:57pm CST.  He went peacefully, which is how he specified he would like to go.  Things are pretty down in the household tonight.  This is a very new feeling and experience for us all. Mom is doing as well as she can.  She has expressed many times how extremely happy she is that everyone made it back home for Dad – Emily, the baby Sean, and I made it from Cincinnati; Sean flew in from Seattle.  Megan was here from across the river and Uncle Robby made the trek up from North Carolina.  Uncle Robby was a great help with everything.  He has worked with Hospice before and knew what to expect and let us know ahead of time.  It was nice hearing things from a loved one instead of a nurse (although the nurses di do a great job).  Mom expressed a number of times how happy she was that Emily and I made it up with little Sean.  When she spoke to dad a few days ago, Dad said the only thing he never got to do was hold his grandson.  We made sure that happened for a long while today.  Sean laid in Grandpop’s arms very peacefully and even slept for a while.
The next few days certainly won’t be easy for any of us.  There are a lot of steps to take care of and many feelings going around. We are all happy that dad has made the next step.  He went very peacefully.  We are surely going to miss him more than anyone knows.  Colonel Lawrence Cahill Jr. will be missed be many people – Air Force, American Red Cross, Friends, Family,.  We love you Dad! Keep watching over little Sean!
