If at first you don’t succeed…

Tag: SeanAndrewEmily @ 10:17 am

Sean had tried rice cereal a few times before his doctor appointment and HATED it (also see: LOATHED, DESPISED, DETESTED). He made such an awful face when offered it, and even started crying when he would see the container of it being pulled out of the cabinet! 🙂

We did buy some oatmeal yesterday and let him try that. He still hasn’t gotten the skill of swallowing it, he just pushes it around in his mouth for awhile. I tried feeding him some before bathtime last night and he didn’t make an awful face, but wasn’t swallowing it either. When I had him layed on the counter undressing him, I tried a little bit more, and he did well with it. I think laying down helped to get it into the back of his mouth and he was able to figure out how to swallow it. Must be hard to figure out swallowing stuff other than milk for the first time ever! Anyway, we got a cute short video of him eating, he was even making the “MMM!” sound loudly and kicking his feet while eating. I’ll try to get it posted tonight.

Tried to feed him a little more this morning. I didn’t get a bad face, but he wasn’t really feeling it this morning. Will try again tonight. Can’t wait until he actually starts eating more of it. Right now it’s just 3-4 baby spoonulls per session. We’ll keep trying!

4 month checkup

Tag: SeanAndrewEmily @ 11:01 am

Sean had his 4 month checkup today. He got another round of shots/vaccines, and this time did surprisingly well with the shots! He only cried for about 15 seconds total…thanks to a very speedy and nice nurse/shotgiver 🙂

He now weighs in at 15lb 11oz. Since he’s eating so much now and has doubled his birth weight, they said he could start rice cereal or oatmeal. How exciting! We’ll buy and try out some oatmeal tomorrow and see how it goes!

They were also very impressed with his “skills” (standing, rolling over, talking, manipulating objects, etc). Our little boy genius!

He did it!

Sean slept through the night last night for the first time!! He went to bed around 8pm, and slept until 6:30am! I actually woke up around 4:00am when he usually gets up, and had a hard time falling back to sleep because I was saying to myself “I know he’s going to wake up any minute, so I’ll just lay here.” I finally fell back asleep and didn’t hear him until 6:30! Good boy! He’s so big *sheds a tear*

Hopefully this won’t jinx it…

Tag: SeanAndrewEmily @ 12:39 pm

Sean has slept really well the last two nights. He went to bed around 7:30-8:00p both nights, and woke up at his usual 4:00am-ish for a bottle, then slept until 8:00am! I actually had to wake him up this morning (which he was pretty grumpy about) at 8:00 so I could leave for work. I really hope that this continues…it’d be so nice to sleep in until 8 on the weekends!! He usually gets up around 6-6:30am daily, so this is an unbelievable change! 🙂

Father’s Day 2008 – My first!

Tag: Emily,Family,food,Fun,General,Paul,SeanAndrew,The HousePaul C. @ 11:21 pm

We started out on Saturday by attending a musical that Emily’s cousin Wes was in. It was a small theatre group introducing a new Christian musical. We enjoyed it. Sean enjoyed his afternoon with his Auntie Gamma (Emily’s Aunt Laurie).
Emily made us a reservation at John Philip’s in Crestview Hills. Its one of my new favorite restaraunts. The menu is small (wine list huge), but the selection of appetizers and entree’s is not missing anything. I went with the Filet (with a side of mushroom bourdalaise sauce) and Emily got the prime rib. Having a restaraunt of this nature makes me feel we don’t need to drive down to the waterfront anymore! The service is great as well. Our waiter was never overbearing and even remembered the last time we came in (and he wasn’t even our waiter that time!).
Ashley kept an ear out for Sean while we were out to eat – Thanks again Ash! Another advantage of the colony! Emily and I finished up the night watching the movie Jumper – although she didn’t make it through and had to finish it on Sunday. I don’t know why that movie got such a bad review when it was in theatre’s, as we both enjoyed it. Def. a renter and not a buyer though.
On Sunday, Emily, Sean, and I went to the Newport Aquarium. We got the idea a few weeks back when we visited a Petsmart store. He just stared with great awe into the little aquariums there.

We had a great time. Sean stayed up for it as long as he could. We actually got almost to the end before he couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore. He only missed the penguins (We’ll just have to catch them when we go to the St. Louis Zoo next time).
On Monday, I came home to a Father’s Day surprise! Emily and I have been looking for a small table and chair set to have on our front porch, but never got around to picking one up. I had a model that I liked, but Emily was unsure about it. Turns out, she liked it enough to make it my father’s day gift – I was quite pleased!

Getting back to normal

Tag: SeanAndrewEmily @ 10:34 am

Sean’s all better now from his little sicky episode. He’s slept in his crib the past two nights which has been great for me since I haven’t slept well the past few nights. I think he’s still making up for not eating very much while he was sick, so he’s up a couple times a night to eat, but it’s ok.

We’re all going to see James Taylor tonight; so Sean will have his first real babysitter. He’s really excited and so are we 🙂 Hope to get more pictures soon, I know everyone is waiting for updates!

All Better!

Since Monday night, Sean has been sleeping in his crib and his sniffles are all gone! Mom and Dad have been sleeping well (especially mom!) and Sean is back to his normal cheerful self. He went to daycare for the first time in over a week yesterday. He was so pooped when he got home, that he was in bed by 6:30pm and didn’t wake up until midnight for a bottle! I was secretly hoping he would wake up so I would actually get to spend some time with him 🙂

Sicky boy

Tag: SeanAndrewEmily @ 8:25 am
  • Poor little Sean has been quite sick the last few days. He still has a fever and is now really congested and coughing (probably from the drainage). He throws up his bottles every now and then too. It’s been a rough couple of nights since he hasn’t slept very well, but Paul and I have battled through it. It’s amazing how well your body can function on no sleep when it’s for the benefit of your little baby.
My mom and Aunt Laurie have been amazingly helpful by watching Sean during the day for us, since he can’t go to daycare with a fever. They are even putting off their trip to New York for a few days to care for him. They are lifesavers!

I got the pictures of Sean and Reagan online, check them out here.
